Session 1: Color Theory Mixing Acrylic Colors.  In this session we will mix various custom colours from three primaries plus white. Practical exercises will be designed to quickly advance you to mixing your own color choices more efficiently. Main principals of using color and basic art terms will be presented. Art examples will reinforce your lesson plus practical art piece created shall be a first take home art to hang proudly. Workshop Project 1: Local Landscape coastal view and Atmospheric Perspective

Session 2: Composition, Drawing and Sketching for an Art Project. Constructions are fundamental for any creative work. In this class you will learn "tricks of the trade”- quick applications for angles and shapes, proportion observation, correct perspective, and image tracing.

Workshop Project 2: Studio Still life Composition

Session 3: Value Study and Foreground and Background painting techniques. Brushstrokes and Edges.    Dark vs Light paint value, and edge qualities, are the most important settings for your painting! They decide on focal areas and express 3rd dimension on a flat canvas. Monochrome underpaintings and a gamut tool will also be studied.

Workshop Project 3: Vancouver Island Floral or Tree study

Session 4: The Final Painting Study: We will start from an underpainting, per previous lessons, and then continue into brilliant acrylic paint colors and free styles of prominent BC artists. I personally admire a quick ease of a brushstroke and the color application. We will all learn how difficult it is to paint freely! Most beginners tend to duplicate photographs. Your own interpretation, feeling, and capturing of a moment with an ease, is the most difficult thing to do in arts. So let's give it a try. You, and yours, will be surprised with your take home project!
